Two archaeologists, who had worked on the ‘dig’ at the Park Street Car Park site visited Park Street this week, to talk with the children about what the area was like in the past, and to show them some artefacts. They had some Roman Pottery, and a Viking coin that had been cut in half. The children were interested to find out that there was a Roman Road under the spot, and nearby a narrow lane called Jordan’s Yard that linked Bridge Street and Park Street. They showed us photographs of evidence that there was a blacksmith’s there, stabling for fifty horses, and possibly a butcher’s shop!
