Yesterday at Park Street we had a special Religious Education day, for the children to explore the school values and their religious context. The day began with Collective Worship with Mrs Hawker, where we looked at the bible verses underpinning each value, noticing that a number of these come from the letters of St Paul, who stressed similar values when encouraging the Christian communities he had visited around the Mediterranean. The team who won the ‘Teamwork’ prize at the Computing Competition this week, also told the other children how they had used our school values to create this success! Several children also contributed to the discussion about how our ‘spirituality’ grows, inwards, outwards and upwards, through using these values.

After Collective Worship, the children visited each classroom to take part in activities around each value. In Woodpecker classroom, Ms Beringer explored the value of ‘honesty’ through the story of the ‘Boy who cried ‘Wolf!’, and building a community tree with leaves created by the children. In Eagle classroom, Mr Sharpe explored the value of ‘respect’, through the children acting out the ‘long chopsticks’ story (https://www.celestialpeach.com/blog/heaven-hell-long-chopsticks-parable), and creating a large poster with ideas of how they can treat each other with respect. In Robin classroom, Mrs Robinson shared activities around ‘friendship and kindness’ including making a ‘friendship potion’, and in Owl classroom, Mrs Brown explored the values of ‘learning and fun’.
