Year 1

Year 1 pupils are tested in the Phonics Screening Check.

Year 2

At the end of Key Stage 1, Year 2 take Standard Assessment Tests (SATS).

These tests help to inform teachers in making their professional teacher assessments of pupils in reading and mathematics.

Writing and science are assessed solely by teacher assessment.

By the end of Year 2 pupils are expected to achieve the Age Related Expected (ARE) standard.

Year 4

Towards the end of Year 4, pupils will take a statutory multiplication tables check (MTC).

DfE states “The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.”

Year 6

At the end of Key Stage 2, Year 6 take Standard Assessment Tests (SATS).

Year 6 pupils are tested in reading, mathematics and grammar, punctuation & spelling (GPS).

Writing is assessed by means of teacher assessment.

By the end of Year 6 pupils are expected to achieve the Age Related Expected (ARE) standard.

Performance

Data on school performance is collated and sent to the Department for Education via the local authority. These figures are then published, with comparisons to local and national figures.
